Understand the Bite Behind Wear,
Breakage and Jaw Strain

Worn teeth, repeated fractures or jaw discomfort can have more than one cause. We assess the teeth, muscles, joints and habits together, then start with reversible, conservative care before considering any permanent change to the bite.

Occlusal Analysis

Map How the Teeth, Muscles and Joints Work Together

Repeated chips, uneven wear or a bite that feels 'off' should not be corrected by guesswork. Occlusal analysis maps how the teeth meet, how the jaw moves and where muscles or joints are tender. The result is a diagnosis and priority list - not automatic grinding or extensive treatment.

4 RECORDS
Contacts, movement, wear and symptoms
  • Connects symptoms with measurable tooth, muscle and joint findings.
  • Identifies overload that may threaten fillings, crowns or implants.
  • Separates harmless contact patterns from problems that need care.
  • Provides a baseline for monitoring wear or bite changes.
  • Prevents irreversible treatment from starting without a clear reason.

Before & After

Real results from patients who underwent an Occlusal Analysis at our clinic.

Before After

Treatment Process
1
Define the problem

We map when symptoms occur, what has broken or worn and what makes the bite feel different.

2
Examine teeth and restorations

Contacts, mobility, fractures, wear, missing teeth and recent dental work are checked.

3
Assess movement and muscles

Jaw opening, guidance, joint sounds and muscle tenderness are recorded.

4
Add focused records

Photographs, scans, imaging or digital contact analysis are used only when they answer the question.

5
Explain the options

We recommend monitoring, habit change, a protective appliance or restorative planning as the findings support.

Start Jaw-Pain Care with Simple, Reversible Steps

Jaw pain, stiffness, locking or painful clicking can disrupt eating and sleep. TMD is a group of more than 30 joint and muscle conditions, so one treatment does not fit everyone. We rule out dental and medical causes, explain the likely diagnosis and begin with the least invasive option.

1ST LINE
Conservative care first
  • Looks beyond the bite to muscles, joints, habits and other pain conditions.
  • Explains why painless clicking often needs no treatment.
  • Begins with reversible care and clear self-management guidance.
  • Coordinates dental care with medical or physical-therapy referral when needed.
  • Avoids permanent bite changes unless a separate structural need is proven.

Before After

Treatment Process
1
Listen to the pattern

We review pain location, timing, locking, sounds, habits, headaches, sleep and other health conditions.

2
Examine and rule out

Teeth, bite, jaw movement, muscles and joints are assessed and other causes are considered.

3
Set a conservative plan

Education, softer foods, heat or cold, habit awareness and appropriate pain guidance may start first.

4
Add targeted support

Physical therapy, behavioural care, medication review or a non-permanent appliance is considered by diagnosis.

5
Review before escalating

We measure comfort and function and use referral or advanced care only when simpler steps are insufficient.

Protect Teeth from Grinding and Clenching Forces
Night Guard Therapy

Protect Teeth from Grinding and Clenching Forces

Night-time grinding can chip enamel, wear edges and overload restorations without waking you. A custom guard creates a smooth protective surface between the teeth. It protects against damage rather than promising to stop the habit, and it is adjusted if fit or symptoms change.

1 GUARD
Custom-made for your bite
2 RECORDS
Digital scan plus bite
7-14 DAYS
Typical fabrication range
  • Separates opposing teeth to reduce direct wear and chipping.
  • Protects crowns, veneers and implant restorations from overload.
  • Fits more precisely than a generic boil-and-bite guard.
  • Creates a record of grinding marks and appliance wear over time.
  • Can be adjusted as the bite, restorations or comfort changes.

Treatment Process
1
Confirm the risk

We check wear, fractures, symptoms, restorations and whether another condition needs attention.

2
Scan the teeth and bite

A digital impression and bite record capture a comfortable, accurate fit.

3
Design the appliance

Material, thickness and arch are selected for protection, durability and cleaning.

4
Fit and adjust

The guard is checked on the teeth and refined so contacts are even and comfortable.

5
Review wear and symptoms

We inspect the appliance, teeth and bite and adjust or replace it when necessary.

Bite Rehabilitation

Rebuild Worn or Failing Teeth in a Controlled Sequence

Severe wear, broken restorations and missing teeth can leave no stable foundation for isolated repairs. Bite rehabilitation coordinates the full mouth so new work shares force safely and feels natural. We test proposed changes, preserve usable teeth and complete treatment in planned stages.

3D RECORDS
Digital planning available
  • Stops repeated tooth-by-tooth repairs from creating conflicting shapes.
  • Restores missing support and protects weakened teeth in one sequence.
  • Tests comfort, speech and appearance before definitive work.
  • Coordinates crowns, onlays, implants, bridges or dentures as needed.
  • Builds hygiene access and maintenance into the final design.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the questions our patients ask most before their implant consultation.

No. Jaw pain can involve muscles, joints, headaches, habits, stress, injury and other medical conditions. Evidence does not support permanently changing the bite as a routine cure for TMD. We rule out other causes and start with simple, reversible measures.

A guard mainly separates and protects the teeth; it may not stop the underlying clenching or grinding. Fit, symptoms and tooth wear are reviewed. Stop using an appliance and contact us if it increases pain or changes how your teeth meet.

The examination may include tooth contacts, wear patterns, jaw movement, muscle tenderness, photographs, digital scans and selected imaging. Complex cases may benefit from mounted models or digital bite analysis. Records are chosen to answer a specific question.

It may be considered when many teeth are worn, fractured, missing or heavily restored and the current bite cannot support predictable repair. It is not a first-line treatment for uncomplicated jaw pain. The plan is tested and staged before extensive irreversible work.

Arrange prompt care after trauma, sudden inability to open or close the mouth, facial swelling, fever, new numbness or rapidly increasing pain. Chest pain, neurological symptoms or difficulty breathing or swallowing requires urgent medical assessment.
